This graph shows a decrease in sheep in the central area but at the same time an increase in cattle.

3.2 Number of farms

This graph shows the number of farms by types of farming. The development shows a decrease in sheep farms from 234 at its height in 2012 to 174 in 2018. A decrease has also been in cattle farms and horse farms that had increased up until 2016.

This graph shows the number of overnight stays per year in the central area. Overnight stays have increased consistently since 2011.
Inside stay is considered accommodation sold in hotels, guesthouses and B&B's (other than Airbnb).

Changes in work can affect the number of farms in agricultural production and change the pattern of production in farming which is necessary to monitor. 

In recent years the number of tourists in the area has increased. Accommodation supply has gone up. It is important to monitor the number of accommodation options and their use.

Information on the number of farms producing agricultural productions, the number of animals, the number of accommodation options, number of overnight stays (inside and outside) along with the use of accommodation will be published.

Frequency

Information on farming, accommodation and its use will be published yearly.

Area

Central area - farming.

Central area and the whole of Iceland - tourism.

Accountability 

The project manager is responsible for acquiring the data and publishing it according to the publishing schedule.
