Greenhouse gas emissions at PCC BakkiSilicon
The emissions of carbon dioxide equivalents from PCC BakkiSilicon are directly related to the company's raw material consumption and production volume of silicon metal.
In 2018, the PCC BakkiSilicon released the equivalent of 50,402 t of carbon dioxide. The first months of the year production had not started, but furnace 1, Birta, was put into operation on April 30 and furnace 2, Bogi, was put into operation on August 31, therefor the low number of greenhouse gas emission. The year 2019 is the first full year of operation of the factory and the discharge was 98,405 tons. In 2020, production was suspended due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which had a significant impact on the market for the company's products. Production started again in 2021 and the company released the equivalent of 97,338 tons of carbon dioxide.
